Etes vous un pirate?! En tout cas je vous recommande de vous “patcher” un oeil si vous avez l’intention de regarder le dernier film des “boys” de Escape; Les Pirates. Vous comprendrez se que je veux dire! Voici les photos de la première qui a eu lieu hier à L’ambiance du foyer à Mascouche.

It’s spring in Montreal but the weather hasn’t been very nice most of the time.  That made it the prefect time to hit the road.  As a bonus Hugues Lauzier actually had a weekend off work.  He hasn’t been on a weekend skate road trip in years.  We started planning this trip early and as usual, a bunch of people bailed at the last minute.  Too bad for them.

The plan was to head towards Toronto to check out the new parks out there.  Last fall I’d been lucky enough to get first grinds at the King City bowl.  At the time the coping stuck out what felt like two inches.  It was hard to air over the coping and grind it.  Right after my visit the park builder went back and grinded down the the coping to a usable size over the following weeks.  I wanted to go back to King City since the day I left there.  That bowl was the best bowl I’ve skated that Spectrum Skateparks designed.

Our trip started off with an oldie but goodie, Campbellford.  It’s a good warm up bowl (and street course) and breaks up the long drive.  We all seemed a little rusty after a long winter.  Landed 5-0s were rare at first.  It was because of the coping, yeah, that’s it.  After a little warm up time the smiles came back and even a bunch of laughs.  Poulin was the only one not laughing when he hit a pebble and flat spotted one of his wheels.  The rest of us laughed though since his wheels weren’t even a week old.

I’d sort of plan to hit Vanderhoof (the Hoof) after Campbellford but most of the guys had already skated that park before.  They want some new stuff to skate.  King City had lights and fit the bill.  My friend Brent Jordan didn’t have access to his car that day so we first drove into Toronto to pick him up.  Since Brent lives next to the Hoof, we checked what was going on there.  There was a full session going down and the guys skating were bummed that we weren’t staying to skate.  Sorry guys.  Once at King City, the guys must have been confused on the bowl design.  The bowl looks confusing and unskateable.  That’s just the way it looks; it skates great.  After the warm up of Campbellford, we started hot right from the get go.  Lauzier had brought his BBQ and he sparked it up and threw down some meat on it.  A killer bowl, lights (really good lights), Brent’s blasting boom milk crate, and a BBQ are what dreams are made of.  Everyone had a blast and ripped.  Before leaving King City we stopped by the local watering hole (The Hunt Pub).  While walking there from the skatepark we ran into the cook who offered us some free food once we got inside, sick!

The next day it was supposed to rain but luckily the meteorologists were wrong.  The day started at Ashbridges.  No one from the Montreal crew had skated it yet.  The bowl is a replica of the Encinitas Y.M.C.A skatepark big bowl which I’ve skated a couple of times.  To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the Encinitas bowl so I wasn’t expecting much skating on my behave.  Surprisingly everyone threw on their pads, yes, everyone had knee pads.  A couple of runs in I realized that this bowl doesn’t skate like the original at all.  The flat bottom is actually level, the surface is smoother, no deathbox that get’s in the way, and the bowl seems narrower.  All this to say, “I’m a fan of the replica”.

These guys loved the action going on in the bowl so they found a spot with the best view.

The last day we had planned on skating the Hoof but we all had missions that we needed to complete at Ashbridges so we headed back to Ashbridges.  Things started off easy the next day except for me with backside 50-50s.  Whatever?  We can’t have everything in life.  The Montreal crew were the first one’s there and I we outlasted the locals.  I guess it is in their backyard so they can skate it whenever.  The weekend was a blast.  Thanks to the locals, Leah and Mike Hager and the boys that came down from Montreal.  I’ll be back soon.

Passage obligé  sur le livre aux visages aujourd’hui (aka je lurkais su’ facebook) pis genre je vois que legendary Spoon-Bee partage cette image géniale là (ci-dessous) à propos de laquelle quelqu’un a commenté quelque chose de brillant… pis je lis toute le texte là (c’est un peu long). Pis je le comprends toute. Vraiment bon. Pis j’me dis tellement “Fuck le marketing esti! J’pisse sur la prochaine pancarte de pub que je vois… (Façon de parler). Pis ‘tu suite après su’l ‘book Timebomb share le nouveau vidéo de Etnies qui célèbre les 15 dernières années de Ryan Sheckler. Pis je trippe pas tant Etnies, pis je trippe pas tant Sheckler d’habitude. Mais là… après le 10 minutes que le vidéo dure… y me reste juste à dire: Wow. Criss que c’est hot le parcours de Sheckler avec Etnies pareil. Meilleur vidéo. J’avoue que j’les skaterais p-e ces souliers là. Ha oui pis… fuck le marketing… (vous en pensez quoi?)

Donner un skate à quelqu’un qui n’a pas grand chose c’est quand même un beau cadeau. Imaginez construire un skateparc! L’organisme Skateistan amène le skateboard à des jeunes en Afghanistan et au Cambordge qui n’y auraient pas eu accès autrement. Et pis là demain ce jeudi il y a une fille d’ici qui s’appelle  Judyna Pres qui organise un party/levée de fonds parce qu’elle sera bénévole là-bas au Cambodge pour les prochains 6 mois.

Le TRH bar reçoit l’événement et Ulc et You wheels commandite ça! V’nez boire une pinte!

Dans un effort pour amasser des fonds pour cette cause et comme excuse pour faire le party, j’organise une levée de fonds dont 20% des profits seront versés à Skateistan. Le reste va m’aider à couvrir six mois de coûts de vie au Cambodge, la nourriture, l’essence pour le transport des enfants à notre école, matériaux pour le travail, les factures mensuelles et les situations d’urgence telles que les réparations de véhicules si une situation se présente.

L’événement débutera à 19h, avec le court métrage “Skateistan: To Live and Skate Kabul” à 20h30, suivi d’un tirage un peu plus tard.

L’année dernière, les gars de Transit Skateboards ont sorti un full length skateboard vidéo.  J’ai eu la chance de le voir au Centre Phi lors de leur festival du film de planche à roulettes.  Le film est bien mis ensemble et a une sensation <artsy>.  Les gars ont réussi à trouver quelques clip des années 70 qui fait toujours plaisir à voir.  Pour une petite entreprise, Transit Skateboards voyager loin pour filmer.  La semaine dernière, le film a droper sur l’Internet.  Merci les boys.
