Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan….what?  I am betting that most people that check out Exposé Mag have no idea what Kyrgyzstan is.  Kyrgyzstan is a country just below Kazakhstan (that is just below Russia).  What the hell could Kyrgyzstan have to do with skateboarding you might ask?  Well, Red Bull posted a video of a couple of guys road tripping through it.

In the early 80’s my brother and I traveled all over Europe.  Most places we visited the locals had never seen a skateboard before.  To me that was so weird since what seemed like my whole life I knew what a skateboard was.  It was so foreign to me that I seemed so foreign to them.  The guys in the video get the same feeling in 2014, that is amazing.  Spreading the joy of skateboarding to places that do not know it, yet!

The weirdest part of the video for me is when in the middle of nowhere they run into a vert ramp.  Just from the quick glimpse of the ramp, it looks like it is a steel frame with Russian birch as the surface.  Basically it is Tony Hawk’s ramp in Kyrgyzstan.  That ramp looks to be way better than any vert ramp ever in Montreal.  No one skateboards out there but they have a great ramp.  That just blows my mind.

Here is the tag line for the three part video. « One of the greatest dimensions of skate culture is being on the road to explore new places. »

I have also added a bonus Red Bull video from the TWS site titled « Descending Bilbao ».  Street skating in Spain.
