The North Carolina trip has a different crew every year. For the 2014 edition, one of the new guys was Jordan Wiens from Ottawa. On the trip he had brought a battery backpack for his VHS carmera. Cutting edge 1982 technology. To top it off, he was using used VHS tapes that already had movies taped on them. Between clip recordings there would be parts of the background movie. What a great idea.
Jordan’s video premiered last night in Ottawa. I wish I could have made it and hung out with the boys. Since I missed the premiere, I thought I would have to wait a month or so to see the video. Then just as I was getting ready to log out of my computer at work, I noticed a link to the video. I still logged off.... [Voir la suite]
Sam Lind, who? Sam lives in Ottawa. Okay, he has storage in Ottawa. Him and Charlie have been on the road for the last couple of months. Basically they have traveled around the perimeter of the United States recently. I am mad jealous. Supra Distribution just dropped an Antihero clip spotlighting Sam. Right now Sam is not stoked on the footage (haha) since he has gotten so much better on the road since he filmed this clip. Sam, the clip is rad!
I am happy you did not mess up the VW Sam.

Last weekend Antique Skate Shop (in Ottawa) and Vans Canada worked together to get a yellow bus full of kids to skate for a free park rental night at the Taz. Not only was the bus ride free, the entry into the Taz was also free. That is not where the freeness ended. The kids were offered free pizza and prize packs. Lucky kids! Oh yeah, not only these kids were lucky but Vans invited a bunch of Montreal skater to join in the fun. I was one of those luck Montreal skaters.
In the street section there was a ton of craziness going down. I kind of wish I’d brought a camera with me that night to capture the sick skating going down. But then again, if I had a camera I would have skated less. I will stick with skating more... [Voir la suite]
For the last couple of years Vans Canada has been nice enough to bring me down to Toronto for the Hoedown at the Hoof contest. With the Vans guys the hotel is sweet, the food is great, and we even had some ladies on route flash us (on the way there and by chance we ran into the same ladies on the way home). They have been great trips. This year Vans was able to take actually team riders on the trip. I got bumped from the van but I was super stoked all those guys were going down for the contest. A couple of weeks prior to the contest my friend Mike Lavoie had expressed interest in going down but he wanted to fly down there. Luckily he works for AirCanada and could get me on the flight cheaply. I thought going down with Vans... [Voir la suite]
No, I’m not talking about the singer. Well, she does have something to do with the trick. Tony Hawk invented the trick and it was called after Madonna the singer but that is all this post has to do with the singer. A madonna is one of those tricks that some people make look good. On the other hand, many people make the trick look lame. I’m part of the latter group. I often lunch break on the coping on the way in. Oh yeah, a madonna is a « lien to tail » (a lien air is a frontside air while grabbing your board with your fronts hand on the heel side of the board [AKA grabbing backside]) and you take your front foot off towards the heel of the board. Sounds easy right? It’s actually... [Voir la suite]
It has been two months since I was in North Carolina and I miss it so much. This was the North Carolina trip in which I skated the worst out of the 7 years that I’ve been going there but I still wish I was there right now. Skating poorly has just motivated me to skate better next year and wishing next years’ trip happens soon. Even if I didn’t skate well, the trip was amazing.
Sam blasting a huge frontside air at the Kill Devil Hills skatepark even though all the other guys left to get drunk.
Days before leaving Montreal for North Carolina a couple of guys bailed on the trip. It was sad that they couldn’t make the trip for one reason or another. Oh yeah, a day before leaving I also found out that... [Voir la suite]
